On Thursday, 6th November 2014, history was made. 4am CAB went live. That is to say, we performed a few sketches in front of an audience.
It was brilliant!
As it was an experiment and I didn’t know if it would work, I kept the circle small and tasked Anna & Chris with the job. They rose to the challenge with aplob.
We did the deed at The Freedom Fridge, Rose and Crown in Kentish Town. It’s a regular weekly open mic gig on a Thursday and it attracts a good atmosphere with a mix of performers and real people in the audience. I’ve been along to a few of their nights, so I knew it would be a receptive place for us to take our first steps as a live sketch act.
I picked out three sketches from our podcast that I felt would work as visual sketches: Superbloke and Superlady; Facebook Like & Nigel the Urban Ninja. The first sketch went down really well, Facebook Like probably could have been rewritten to make it a bit tighter and the Ninja sketch (my favourite from Series 3!) probably works better as an audio sketch. It was great fun to do and we’ve learned a lot even from 5 minutes on stage.
Here is the video from our first ever live performance!
