4am CAB Live!

On Thursday, 6th November 2014, history was made.  4am CAB went live.  That is to say, we performed a few sketches in front of an audience.

It was brilliant!

As it was an experiment and I didn’t know if it would work, I kept the circle small and tasked Anna & Chris with the job.  They rose to the challenge with aplob.

We did the deed at The Freedom Fridge, Rose and Crown in Kentish Town.  It’s a regular weekly open mic gig on a Thursday and it attracts a good atmosphere with a mix of performers and real people in the audience.  I’ve been along to a few of their nights, so I knew it would be a receptive place for us to take our first steps as a live sketch act.

I picked out three sketches from our podcast that I felt would work as visual sketches: Superbloke and Superlady; Facebook Like & Nigel the Urban Ninja.  The first sketch went down really well, Facebook Like probably could have been rewritten to make it a bit tighter and the Ninja sketch (my favourite from Series 3!) probably works better as an audio sketch.  It was great fun to do and we’ve learned a lot even from 5 minutes on stage.

Here is the video from our first ever live performance!

Recording begins

Last night, after a lot of time spent in front of the blinking cursor of doom, we finally made it into the studio.  I say studio, it was Anna’s front room – thanks Anna!

Lee and Ian (not to be confused with Ironman)

This is the perfect opportunity to introduce you to the two newest members of The 4amcab Company: Ian and CJ.

When the first episode is released you may recognise Ian’s voice from a previous episode.  Ian was the main storyline character in S1Ep4 – Hainault?, playing a very tired Martin, who falls asleep on a night bus to Hainault and ends up robbing a petrol station.  Ian has ventured north, out of London, to join us for the whole of Series 3.

CJ is the other new member to join the merry band of 4amcab actors.  CJ has worked extensively in theatre, both behind the scenes and on the stage.  The first thing I asked her to do was speak in a Dutch accent and pretend to be on a porn shoot – as she didn’t run away, I think she’ll fit right in!

More details will be published soon on The 4amcab Company page.

So the first session is done, with more on the way.  Now the mamoth task of editing almost 4 hours of intensive 4amcab goodness begins.  We are very much on our way to Series 3.  Exciting, eh?
