Ep38 – Work in Progress

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 38 – Work in Progress
The journey continues.  New material gets an outing at The Crown – promise we’ll do an episode on that soon – and then at The Fridge.  Mixed results but lots to think about, perhaps not right after coming off stage… nor even while still under the lights.

Ep37 – One More Time

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 37 – One More Time
Saturday night, here I come!  I have my very first weekend gig, even though it’s in a tiny place that no-one has ever heard of before.  I was really looking forward to doing this one and because it’s a ticketed show, I decided that I ought to go with material that I know quite well.  I also discover, quite by accident, that I have a huge fan (well, a small fan)

Episode 36 – Rach Takes Over
Lee hands over the reigns to friend and comedy colleague Rachel Wheeley, who he booked in for her first gig in January. Rachel takes us through her preparation for the gig at the Yurt, which includes a warm up to 50 babies under the age of one and their mothers. Contains screaming.

Episode 35 – Comedy in The Crown
I’m taking over the world!  Well, St Albans anyway.  This episode sees the launch of my new night, Comedy in The Crown.  I should also point out here that it’s half Phil Hawksworth’s night too, before he starts pouting ;-)

Ep34 – Tale of Two Gigs

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 34 – Tale of Two Gigs
Hello!  This week I managed to negotiate my 5 spot up to a hallowed 10 (well, I just asked and they said, “sure”) so I got to use my old stuff and mash it up with my new stuff.  Before all that, I visit another lovely little gig in Farringdon, Jester Jesters Monday Night at the Betsy Trotwood.  To say these two gigs were poles apart would be an understatement,

Ep33 – Gigless

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 33 – Gigless
A ponderous episode of Joking Around this time as I don’t have a gig booked in.  I spend a bit of time thinking about my approach to doing new material.  After not coming to much conclusion, I take a trip out to the perennially good Freedom Fridge and catch up with the one and only Rachel Wheeley.  She’s also starting to do some new material herself so we chat about that.  Just a quick thank you, she has kindly allowed me to stick a bit of her set from the gig in too.  Lastly, there’s a cameo appearance from Purminder, a work friend, who also popped down to see some live comedy.

Ep32 – Down in One

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 32 – Down in One
This episode perfectly illustrates my continuing dilemma in stand up, when to stick and when to twist?  I return to the Freedom Fridge to do my new stuff, which is becoming old, or is it?  Then an opportunity arises and I try something different, which results in me not being as… well, have a listen and you’ll see what happens.

Also, there’s a bit of news to share and a special treat for fans of radio drama at the start.

Enjoy!

Ep31 – Ameliorate

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 31 – Ameliorate
So I finally get the chance to try out my new stuff this week, I say finally but it was my choice not to do it last week, which was a good move really.  With zero rehearsals, I get you up to speed whilst on the way to the fantastic Freedom Fridge in Kentish Town.  As an extra bonus feature in this episode, you’ll get to hear Charley Harrison talking to BBC Three Counties Radio about the forthcoming Comedy in the Yurt on Wednesday 26th August 2015 – tickets still available here:  http://www.wegottickets.com/event/320327

Ep30 – Rule of Three

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 30 – Rule of Three
Funny one this.  I step up the gig rate due to some unexpected me time and do three gigs in three nights.  Three very different experiences that just go to show you never quite know how a gig will go.  It’s a long one, but it’s worth sticking in there to hear about the final one. There is a disclaimer, so why are you reading this and not listening already…?

Ep29 – Freedom

4am CAB Presents…

Joking Around – One man’s journey into stand up comedy, from page to stage and beyond.

Episode 29 – Freedom
Out with the old and in with the very scary new stuff, well that’s the plan.  And where better to try out new material than at possibly the best open mic gig in London (despite it being a bringer!) The Freedom Fridge.  Will it work?  Will I find someone to take to the gig? Only one way to find out – unless you follow me on twitter…
